Swoop’s New Ride

Swoop is hitting the road in style with the first vehicle from the University of Utah’s Red Metal Motors initiative.

Red Metal Motors is a University-created program that celebrates school spirit, craftsmanship, and student impact—all while driving scholarship support for University of Utah students.

Each vehicle in the Red Metal Motors series is a custom-built, University-owned creation designed to appear at parades, community events, and special campus celebrations. These unique rides showcase the University’s pride and creativity while connecting students, alumni, and fans in a distinctive way.

When it’s time for a new model to take the spotlight, the previous vehicle will be auctioned to fund student scholarships and future Red Metal Motors projects—creating a lasting cycle of opportunity, engagement, and innovation.

Red Metal Motors isn’t a company—it’s a University of Utah scholarship initiative that turns custom vehicles into student opportunities.

Swoop is hitting the road in style with a vehicle from Red Metal Motors. This custom ride is designed for parades, community events, and special appearances. This unique set of wheels isn’t just for show; it’s built to bring energy, excitement, and school spirit wherever Swoop goes!

But the journey doesn’t end there. Once Swoop has made his rounds with this truck, Red Metal Motors will auction off this one-of-a-kind ride and introduce the next custom, classic vehicle Swoop will cruise around in.

Proceeds from the auction will go toward scholarships - helping students soar to new heights - and to the next ride helping Red Metal Motors create a highly exclusive collection of cars for Utah fans and car enthusiasts.

Red Metal Scholarship

The Red Metal Motors scholarship program came from collaboration with the shop we approached to find us a 1955 or older truck for Swoop to ride in parades - rather than just build one custom U of U classic vehicle to use over and over, we are creating a small collection of these high value vehicles. After 12-18 months of use for each one - parades, community appearances, promotional content for the university - the vehicle will be auctioned off and proceeds from the auction will go towards scholarships for the Swoop program and towards another vehicle. The goal is to support the Swoop program's growing roster of students AND to help support the over 370 annual appearances Swoop makes in the community. Ultimately, Swoop is hoping to be able to have enough scholarship funds available to give back to his fellow students at the University through his own giving program.

Once Swoop has made his rounds with Red Betty, this one-of-a-kind truck will be auctioned off and the next custom, classic vehicle in the series will be introduced. As of August 2025, the current auction date is set for spring 2027. More details will be released as they are finalized.
